Board Director Chris Shaw

Background
Director Shaw joined the Board in 2022. His fellow directors elected him as Board President in 2025 and again in 2026. Moving to San Diego County as a child, Director Shaw has spent most of his adult life in the region. In 2016, he moved to Fallbrook with his wife and daughter, and the family quickly fell in love with the "Friendly Village." They plan to stay for good. He has two daughters from a previous marriage and now has two grandchildren who thankfully live in the San Diego area. He’s a devoted “Grandad” who relishes every moment he can spend with them.
Education
He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, San Diego in 1992 and a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production from New York University in 1996.
Professional Life
He began his career in the motion picture and television industry, specializing in camera and lighting work. After ten demanding years in New York and Los Angeles, he returned to San Diego to be closer to family and find a more favorable work-life balance.
Back home, he founded a construction company that grew into the fine carpentry business he owns now. Director Shaw operated this successful business until an injury resulted in early semi-retirement. Running his own company has taught him to deliver the best possible service within a finite budget, a discipline he brings to his work as a director.
He is also president of his extended family's agricultural business.
Community Service
Community service is central to Director Shaw's values and was a major reason he ran for office. He also serves on the boards of The Live Oak Park Coalition and the Fallbrook Trails Council.
The District's Biggest Challenge
Director Shaw considers wildfire risk to be among the most significant challenges facing this community.
In recent years, the District has invested in major updates to its facilities and equipment. These improvements have lowered response times, strengthened firefighter readiness and made the community safer. They have also contributed to a more favorable ISO rating, one of the factors insurers weigh when setting rates.
